So, here we go again. It is summertime and we have been experiencing lots of questions about the real estate market. Should I buy, should I sell, is the market up or is it down, should I leave the city and the list goes on.
I always say everyone has a story and we need to understand that each and every one of us has a different one to tell. A number of our clients are finding living in Toronto getting to be a bit too expensive as well as a few of you are getting ready to retire and really arent sure what your options are. Today, I thought I would share one option with you. Its my story.
Last year around March 2017 my husband and I were trying to figure out how he could retire and I still wanted to work. We werent ready to cash in our investment properties yet but had a lot of equity in our home. We thought lets try and see if we can get a good price for our house and move out of town but close enough that I can still work in Toronto. Well, success !!! We sold our house and were able to buy a place that was less than half of our Toronto house and also was bigger and in a small town. In fact the drive into Toronto is no worse than if I had to drive across the city end to end to meet a client. I actually grab some snacks, thermos of coffee and listen to a great audiobook. We had to understand the current real estate market to be able to take advantage of it and make it work for us. Now fast forward a year and the market has changed, it has dropped in value in a lot of areas and not so much in others. It is really important to set your real estate goals and then meet with an expert to see how it is that you can obtain them. Just because the market has changed doesnt mean you cant move. It may mean that, perhaps you can rent, buy an investment or take a look at the many possible scenarios that are available to you. Read through the article below and find out my full story along with others and see what they have done. If you want some help going through your options then give Chris or I a call and we would be more than happy to chat over a cup of coffee.
